This match took place to allow all Ray`s mates to pay their respects in away that Ray would have enjoyed. Ray was sadly taken from us last year in a motorway accident last year. At the draw it was clear that the day ahead was going to be an enjoyable one with everyone winding each other up. The owner Mike led the way by after selling all 36 anglers his own fisheries pellets he then announced that all pellets were banned, most of us saw through this but not The Flagger (Craig Ritchie)he was well and truly hooked in the top lip. Poplars A.C secretary Ste Ritchie at arriving at his peg set up his pole then took out his lovingly prepared bread rod complete with hook and lead unfortunately all his end tackle had become tangled, this was untangled with the aid of Dave Brown, with only minutes to go before the all in he launched his1oz lead towards the island 50 yards away, it`s then that we all heard that unmistakable sound of 8ld technium parting company with his lead.Lesson to be learnt Steve make sure your not clipped up at 20 yards next time. A big thank you to Mike Astbury for organizing this match his efforts have helped raise 180 pounds for Cancer Research.
Border match lake 36 pegs Match result.
1st Steve Featherstone 108ld 8oz peg 5 2nd Tim Brown 74ld 8oz peg24 3rd Mike Astbury 61ld 8oz peg23

Ghandi just can't help himself under estimating i.e. lying about his catch. Its that bad now he's convincing himself. He went for a new kepnet off Mick when he convinced himself he only had 50 to 55lb. Come the weigh in this first net weighed 80 + For your own sake stop this lying now . If we're not careful it could catch on and others in the club might follow suit, and where would we be then. A bunch of lying Bastards? ;D ;D ;D Boris

Ghandi is just following a long tradition of anglers from our club who like to be economical with the truth ! Who can forget the famous quote from former club member Terence "Trent" Mooney many moons ago : " I've not got a castor in me box !! ", just before setting the old club record on the Trent, fishing castor for 5 hours on the stick float !
