Here's my first question for the font of knowledge ......... and at the risk of sounding completely thick!!
What is the difference between and ledger and feeder rod? (I've managed to work out what a float rod is!! ;D)
I'm looking to buy a new rod, but unsure as I don't know the difference between them. Also, what's the ideal length for canal fishing?
Thanks in advance!!!

Ledger and feeder rods are really the same thing and it is only how you use it that determines that. Feeder rods normaly can be classed as light, medium, or heavy which is used to identify their casting weight eg a light feeder would be ok for where you anticipate only smaller fish and would be using a small bomb weight or small feeder, a heavy feeder will be capable of casting out bigger weights like a large method feeder and would give you more control over a big fish. Its not clear from your post if you are looking to buy a feeder rod or a float rod for use on a canal, if its a feeder then a light feeder of around 11 foot would do, for a float rod 13ft would be ok for most canals.

Thankyou.
It all seems clearer now.
I'm not going to buy a rod just yet ..... the cheap thing I have will do for now along with my pole.
