Midlands Intersite 2006 - Results
45 anglers from all points of the compass logged out from their chat rooms and descended upon the virtual environment that is Heronbrook Fisheries in Staffordshire for the 2006 Midlands Intersite match. In addition to the usual banter and mud-slinging the big questions were:
Would it be sunny, overcast, rain, sleet, snow, blow a gale, storm, hurricane at Heronbrook? Or all of them?!!!
Would anybody else draw the Felton flier?!!!
Which site would take the team honours? Would it be the predominant Midlanders from Talkangling? The ever-travelling Maggotdrowners? Or would be it the DHP backed Total-Fishing?
Anyway, after collecting the remaining cash and the pools (now where did that super-pool come from?) the 3 team captains got on with the mean business of the draw. BobbyG (MDs) did a grand job of ensuring that 44 of us avoided the Felton flier leaving Andy222 free to get to his personalised peg – more about that later!
So off we went. 33 hardy souls to face a force 8 on the consistent Bridge pool with 12 of us off to avoid the ubiquitous force 8 plus a village of bivvys on the Speci pool en route to the mixed bag that is the Match pool.
SHOCK HORROR – The force 8 didn’t arrive. Instead that bright ball of gas (who had the jumbo breakfast?) came out to light the way, well at least for a few hours.
11am came, with the whistle starting a succession of cup-kits on their journeys to deposit their feasts. Then in we went. Tips went round, floats went under, and most enjoyed a good 5 hours fishing. Some of us didn’t though. Hmmm. Wrong end of the pool again. Now where is that team captain…….
Sun, wind, rain, wind, drizzle and wind later the match was over, kit packed away and the mammoth task of the weigh-in. The highlight of which was when the scales arrived at the said Felton Flier, aka peg 13 on Match pool. Now while the maestro that is Andy222 did catch a few he was well and truly stuffed off the next peg, and that doesn’t happen often. However, his fish-attracting powers were clear for all to witness as one carp was eager to join his brethren in the net. So much so that it was up on the surface calling “Andy, quick, let me in the net”. Nothing new there then!
Anyway with no further ado, the results of the 2006 Midlands Intersite;
