Sounds obvious but remember your bomb rod and/or waggler for fishing tight to the island, normally find a few over while waiting for the pole line.

Was on deans yesterday, it didnt fish very well but loads of fish were showing on top, sadly i couldnt work out how to catch them, if it stays warm though there will def be some shal low fish to be had. Arles is a bit shallower so should in theory warm up quicker ;D

If the match is on Arles then there are few pegs that you will catch shallow from but not all of them. You want to be on pegs 4, 6 ,8, 10, 12 ,14 18 or 19. Pegs 23 to 30 have some form but the conditions will dictate whether the carp will come shallow. Alternatively, clip up and chuck an small cage feeder to the island with hair rigged corn or meat. You have more of a chance of winning on that method from most pegs with an island. It is only pegs 37, 38 ,39 and pegs 1 and 2 that you cannot chuck to the island. I did it in a few matches last year with some good weights, putting meat and corn through an open end feeder.. not everyone's cup 'o tea but who cares?

Thanks Giles, was hoping for some tips from you. I'l bear that in mind. Is it worth taking plenty worm for the pole line?

I wouldn't take worm at the moment because the fish are on meat and corn. The worm may work but some notable anglers tried to make it work all last year and got battered every time. I think the meat and corn will be the dominant baits again this year. Put the stuff through the feeder because I would say that 75% of anglers are fishing the lead or feeder at the moment.

Giles
so you recon its better to fish with meat and corn through the feeder than the lead method.
im going to sound a real thickie but what do you do? simply stuff cubes of meat and corn into the feeder and cast it out? wont it fall out on the cast??

is it a normal open ended feeder they are using with the meat/corn or would a grip mesh work better? Also has the red meat kicked in yet?
