Great threads mate. Some club matches over here only attract 6 anglers in the Winter.Smashing looking carp in your photos. 28 anglers fished our club match at the weekend (Match Results - Birmingham Civil Service)and not 1 carp was caught!Mind you it was hovering on freezing!

hi Martynh i use a black magic mark 2 most of the time with a preston 16 solid elastic or the fox heavy(blue)elastic in it...i also use an old shimano areo sometimes too with some red hydro in it but it takes forever to land the fish on it...i have 2 daiwa poles but daren't use them on theses submarines here...some of the swims have sunken branches and snags in them...we still only usally land 1/2 the fish we hook...they are all wild fish and really take off in the fast water.. .... most times now its hook pulls as i have beefed up my mainlines and hooklenghts and loosened my elastics a little...and am just waiting for some 18 and 20 elastic i have ordered from the uk to give it a go....it should be easy to get 100lb nets there (about 12 fish) in 3 hours if we could land most of the fish we hook... ... that last match i only had 2 smallish carp in the net going into the last 50 mins and had a hectic end to the match..corn or red maggot is what i usally catch on althou they will take anything bread,worm,pastes....these are really wildfish and dont receive much angling presure here at all.......

I live in Massachussetts and we have a river near us with monsters like that.......one day after work I went for a couple hours and had 4 carp for 100lb.....I wouldn't dare use a pole on our river because they are so powerfull it is unreal......most of them have never seen a hook and nobody fishes for them.....people over here treat them as junkfish.......one thing I noticed is that I have never caught a mirror carp on the river just commons

hi alfie i use to live in boston for a few yrs before i moved to chicago....there is some great fishing to be had there too...i didnt have all my match gear there when i lived there as there was no clubs or matches going on there so i never pole fished there but the fishing on the charles river was unbelieveable... ....i had a lot of 100lbs plus there with just a few fish also mostly on the feeder but had a few on the waggler too....i had a few mirrors out of it...there are also large shoals of rudd there with fish up to 2 1/2 lbs, bluegills, roach, catfish, perch, and suckers too...also the mystic river is good too and has alot of roach in it....there are going to be some open matches organised here this year in a few different places in the usa....north carolina,chicago,ohio...plus a few more...there should be a full calender of events ready by the end of jan here thru the newly formed AMFA(american match fishing assoc..) also check out the following link....they have a sec for mass. there too.... www.carpanglersgroup.com/forum/index.php?s=1b8b2a757701279255efddb3c72cf55e
