Read sad report in southern angler of legend Ray Mumford. Apart fro m being semi paralysed by some cwardly scumbags with iron bars, his well earned trophy's nicked from his house . According to report due to attack has no recollection of much including angling. This bloke was so far ahead of his time ,yet some of his jeolous contempories ridiculed him. Pole-fishing , continental ground baits- Ray was the man! His floats(2 different ranges were the dogs whatsits as well ,took alot of shot yet slimline and u could get the wire antennae to settle easily! Be nice if some of todays pole stars and internationals could remember him in some small way. We all owe him some respect. Peace.

It is very sad, Ray was the spearhead of popularising pole fishing in Britain, his articles and endorsed products brought to the attention of the general fishing fraternity, what was a little known style, practiced by all match anglers on the continent. It's hard to believe, but, our international side were totally outclassed in any international event, until we understood the basics of pole fishing and started to compete on equal terms which would not have happened so quickly without Ray. Ray was probably the biggest influence in my early years, giving me a bad case of poleitis, in fact he told me off for using a pole on one occasion. Sadly Ray fell out with many of his contemporaries, often ridiculed in the press, yet for many years he was on the verge of the England team. I for one have caught more fish due to his influence and I respectfully wish him the best.
