Scott I have had 3lb and 5lb Maxima on my spools for about 18 months now and ,although I don't use them all that often, they seem to be still in good nick and I see no good reason to change them just yet.

So long as it is kept in a reel bag or dark envioroment then you shouldn't have any problems. Light causes line to deterioate quickly. Saw a stall at the john smiths two years ago selling Maxima really cheap, same stall there again last year offering the same line. Trouble is we don't know how old it is when we buy it. . do we?

One indicator is the packaging.
On Maxima, with Leeda's involvement, there is now a Union Jack on each spool. Another indicator is the colouration of the spool. How many times have you actually looked at the spool itself that the line comes off?
Dust on the packaging, when its on the shelf, is also a good indication of the age of the line, and if the shop is putting old stock out, then ALWAYS take the stuff that is at the back of the rack.
Why? 1. The retailer will always want to get rid of "older" stock and will therefore replace at the back of the pack. So look here first. 2. With the "sunlight affects line" remark, or something similar, made by Gary, the shade caused by other spools may not have caused too much of an adverse effect on the spool you are buying. Always ask your retailer when the line was put out, and if possible, can you have a spool from the box "out the back" (in the stockroom).
I haven't used Maxima for a few years now, having changed to Daiwa Shinobi, Sensor and now Matchwinner for ALL purposes. SM
