Nice bag of fish with the added bonus of the golden peg. Take it it's got a bit warmer down there now? : )

The fish are currently having it large with each other, the Roach and Rudd have been at it, the Tench appear to be going for it and the Bream are not far behind if not a little in front. The carp and perch I wager are having a quick gobble of their spawny offerings....and yes it is fishing well for them's what have put the time in...afraid it's still taking no prisoners on the speculative dangler but what water doesn't..

Match Report Dog Lane Fishery Middle Lake Napton Warwickshire May 20th Middle Lake 1st Pete Palmer (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg24 29lb ½oz Bream & Tench/ short pole/ double caster over groundbait. 2nd Steve Durrant (Lime Tree AC) Peg22 17lb 7oz Stockies & Bream/feeder 3rd Steve Hatt (Banbury Gunsmiths) Peg14 17lb 1½oz Carp & Tench/ pole 4th Jason Redgrave (Rugby Tackle) Peg26 16lb 14½oz Bream & Stockies/ Short Pole 5th Ray Gregory (Canons Ashby AC) Peg18 14lb 2½oz Stockies & Bream/ Long Pole 6th Tony Hobbs (Banbury Gunsmiths) Peg20 11lb 5½oz Stockies The weather was “fowl” again at Dog Lane this week and those that braved the elements had to contend with driven rain and a tow on the water that was fast enough to run a stick float through. Despite this, they persevered and once rigs and presentation had been adjusted those that got their heads around the challenge caught. Pete Palmer (Dog Lane Fishery) on peg24 opted for two groundbait lines, one at 7m and an inside line at 3m. Rigs of 1½g were fished over depth and held back against the tow and fished upto 3m away from the feed area, where the fish were hanging off. The fish were keen only for casters, with other baits being ignored. As soon as the wind died in the last hour of the match the bites dried up as the tow disappeared, but by that time 3Kg of groundbait and 29lb ½oz was enough to win the match. Steve Durrant (Lime Tree AC) decided to fish his favourite peg with his favourite method and sat the rain and wind out watching his tip go round for 17lb 7oz of stockies and bream. Third placed Steve Hatt (Banbury Gunsmiths) is rumoured to be looking for additional sponsorship from ‘Specsavers’ after leaving his tackle box at home and having to make the dash back to Banbury to retrieve it before the whistle. With only 15mins left to set up before the all-in Steve was still adjusting rigs as the whistle blew. After regaining his composure he eventually found fish and weigh in 17lb 1½oz. The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Match Report Dog Lane Fishery Middle Lake Napton Warwickshire May 27th Middle Lake 16 pegs 1st Chris Hoarsley (Milton Keynes MG) peg20 30lb 7½oz Pole 7m/Stockies & Bream 2nd Dave West (Milton Keynes MG) peg26 29lb 12½oz Pole 4m/Stockies & Bream/feeder 3rd Mick Turner (Daventry AC) peg2 10lb 12½oz Pole/Carp & Tench Section (A) Steve Hatt (Banbury Gunsmiths) Peg9 10lb 11½oz Pole/Bream and Carp Section (B) Tony Hobbs (Banbury Gunsmiths) Peg30 8lb 13oz Long pole/stockies No sign of a hose pipe ban at Dog Lane as yet again the rain came down and the fish got wetter. Chris Hoarsley came back to form this week fishing his way to a winning weight of 30lb 7½oz from peg20 on the far bank section. Chris fished his customary 7m line and was soon into a run of bream and then stockies. Second placed team-mate Dave West on peg26 fished close in at 4m and caught stockies and bream on single corn weighing in 29lb 12½oz. Third place came from peg2 on the dam wall pegs where Mick Turner weighed in 10lb 12½oz, knocking Steve Hatt on peg9 10lb 11½oz into the section (A) win. Section (B) winner Tony Hobbs (Banbury Gunsmiths) weighed in 8lb 13oz of stockies and the sportsman he is, donated his section winnings to Bob Palmer who was fishing on peg26 and weighed in 8lb of Bream and small perch. For those that don’t know Bob he is a young man with Downs Syndrome who come rain or snow is always ready to help out with the organising of the matches. This week he was allowed to fish and with the assistance of Graham Stanley of ILEAP who helped bait his hooks, he out fished nine other anglers including his Dad off the next peg. Well done Bob, and thanks Tony and Graham. The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Match Report Dog Lane Fishery Middle Lake Napton Warwickshire June 3rd Middle Lake 13 pegs 1st Chris Hoarsley (Milton Keynes MG) peg16 47lb 4½oz Pole 7 to 11m/ Bream & carp 2nd Vince Atkinson (Rugby Tackle) peg22 45lb 8½oz Pole 11m/Stockies & Bream 3rd Dave West (Milton Keynes MG) peg9 45lb 4oz Pole/Bream & Carp Chris Hoarsley’s reign continues as the current venue ‘Prince of Pegs’. The Northampton based angler hasn’t found a duff peg recently, has it been pure skill at the draw bag or the bank? Or is it truly both? Needless to say Chris has caught fish where others have struggled to sort out the mood swings of the lake. This week it was the far bank and dam wall where the weights were to be found. Chris fishing pellet over micros on peg 16 put together 34lb 4oz of Bream and 13lb ½oz of carp, for a match winning weight of 47lb 4½oz. Second placed Vince Atkinson made the most of his peg22 and weighed in 45lb 8½oz the bulk of which were bream fishing pellet over soft groundbait. Dave West made a sterling effort to catch up with fellow team-mate Chris and from peg9 returned a weight of 45lb 4oz. Back up weights from the Dam wall were from pegs 7 and 5 where 34lb 4oz and 32lb 2oz were put to the scales by John Dobbie and Steve ‘Tom Tom’ Mayer. The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Match Report Dog Lane Fishery Middle Lake Napton Warwickshire June 17th Middle Lake 12 pegs 1st Chris Hoarsley (Fox Milton Keynes MG) peg40 47lb 1oz Pole/pellet/ Carp 2nd Steve Barnett (Dog Lane Campers) peg41 34lb 5½oz Pole/pellet/Carp 3rd Dave West (Fox Milton Keynes MG) peg38 31lb 15½oz Pole/Bream &Carp Getting through the hordes of silvers was the challenge for all competitors this week, who’s baits were being intercepted before the bigger fish could get a look in. Some managed to feed them off, whilst others adopted a minimal feed approach. Chris Hoarsley’s last visit for the summer ended on a high today with a winning weight of 47lb 1oz of pole caught carp and silvers from one of the more reeded pegs of the lakes’ shallower end. Second placed Steve Barnett made the most of his peg41 and weighed in 34lb 5½oz the bulk of which were carp fishing pellet over pellet. Third position Dave West made a sterling effort again to catch up with fellow team-mate Chris and from peg38 returned a weight of 31lb 15½oz. Back up weights came from pegs 49 and 46 where 29lb 2½oz and 20lb 1oz were put to the scales by Pete Palmer and Steve Durrant. Pete’s weight was made up of Tench and Bream whilst Steves was all carp. Match Report Dog Lane Fishery Middle Lake Napton Warwickshire June 24th Middle Lake 14 pegs 1st Keith Haynes (Daventry AC) Peg56 56lb 3oz Pole/Caster Shallow/ Carp & Bream 2nd Jason Redgrave (Rugby Tackle) peg6 34lb 4oz Pole/pellet/Carp 3rd Derek Cullip (Banbury Gunsmiths) peg8 23lb 15oz Pole/Bream &Carp 4th Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) peg42 23lb 8oz Pole/pellet/carp Keith Haynes gave Dog Lane regulars a pounding this week applying his caster shallow method to good effect on peg 56 where he put together a weight of 56lb 3oz of carp and bream. Feeding caster and using worm heads on the hook it took a while for the fish to arrive but when they did the bites were savage affairs, and Keith lost at least one rig to the bigger surprises that usually lurk in the background. Will he be back to try for the venue record? Watch this space….. Venue ‘hot rod’ Jason Redgrave on peg 6 could only sit and watch it happening until he changed gear and followed Keith’s example. The change was too late to catch up but was good enough for second place with 34lb 4oz. Derek Cullip on peg8 made it into the low 20’s with carp and bream as did Martin ‘Timex’ Paynter on peg42. No photo this week but if you can remember what Max Wall looked like and put that next to a net of fish you won't be far off the mark..... The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Fellow team mate and noted crooner Steve Hatt made the best of peg 40 and caught steadily throughout finally putting 29lb 4oz on the scales. Steve who has persisted with the method feeder all year, kept to the method throughout the match and was rewarded with a steady stream of carp falling to hair rigged meat and corn for 39lb 12oz. Second place went to Josh Whitehead on peg 52 who also used the method feeder throughout the match, but did not concentrate on it, put 35lb 6½oz on the scales. Third place was taken as the all-out was called by Vince Atkinson on peg55 who caught a last minute fish to beat next peg Pete Palmer by 1lb. Match Report Dog Lane Fishery Middle Lake Napton Warwickshire July 15th Middle Lake 10 pegs 1st Chris Horsley (Fox Milton Keynes) Peg52 47lb 12½oz Method/carp/meat & Corn 2nd John Webb (Rugby Tackle) peg7 43lb 13oz Pole/Bream/Pellet/Corn 3rd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg3 42lb Pole/carp/Bream. Chris Horsley returned to Dog Lane to take back his top spot by using the method feeder for the majority of the match at Peg 52. Catching small carp steadily throughout until one of the larger specimens gave Chris a hold breath moment, needless to say it was only for a second as the 7lb fish was safely netted to boost his weight to a match winning 47lb 12½oz. Second place went to John Webb on Peg 7 on the dam wall who put together a fine net of 15 bream and a few carp using the pole and pellet. Third place was taken by Martin Paynter on Peg 3 who caught the majority of his fish close in at 5 and 7m using meat on the hook and pellet as feed. Back up weights were respectable 36lb+ by Andy Beaumont on peg49 and 33lb+ by both Josh Whitehead and Pete Palmer on Pegs 55 and 58. Lowest weight was still a healthy 20lb+. The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm. Match Report Dog Lane Fishery Middle Lake Napton Warwickshire August 26th Middle Lake 10 pegs 1st Chris Horsley (Fox Milton Keynes) Peg54 24lb 15½oz Pole/Bream/Small Carp/ChopWorm 2nd Martin Paynter (Dog Lane Fishery) Peg52 23lb 4½ Pole/Bream/Roach/Caster & Maggot 3rd Wayne Dixon (Daventry) Peg50 12lb 4oz Pole/Bream/Roach Chris Horsley took first place from peg 54 one of his favourite pegs this week, with 24lb 15½oz of Bream and small carp taken on chopped worm and caster. Chris sneaked the win from Martin Paynter, on the next peg with a last minute bream, who up to that point was clearly ahead. Both anglers had used similar tactics, however, Martin’s peg responded with more roach. Wayne Dixon on peg50 improved on his last appearance going from last place to 3rd after realising he had been fishing too far out for the majority of the match. Just goes to show the fine line between fishing and catching. The draw for next weeks match will be at the Kings Head Napton 9am and fishing from 10:30am to 3:30pm.
